Hints & Tips

A number of users have experienced printer problems. These normally relate to printers placed on a network and we would strongly advise that users consider purchasing a separate printer (which only costs a fraction of the cost of the whole system) for this application in order to avoid un-necessary and chargeable callouts for what is usually a network problem and nothing to do with the software.

Other common printer problems include using PCL drivers (a definite no-no) and using font types other than True Type (you must set your system to use True Type only fonts - the Fonts option under Tools). If using our recommended printer (Kyocera FS3800) you should load the FS3700 drivers as we have found a fault in the new FS3800 printer drivers.

Should you need to import a personalised Print & Scan database we should strongly advise you to use the import routine within Print & Scan. This transfers data from a flat bad ASCII file (comma or tab separated) into the Access data tables. Should you with to write record data directly into the Print & Scan database then you must remember that should you encounter problems then we will be able to assist you. There is no problem with reading the data from a Print & Scan file so that you can 'claw' into our tables for specialised reporting purposes but do not attempt to write back to these tables. Users who require to transfer data into our system automatically should contact either James Hollands or Colin Woolhouse on 01634 724724 for information concerning the provision of specialised software for this type of operation, or E-mail us at info@trax-uk.co.uk.

If you need to carry out a survey urgently but your time schedule is extremely tight then as the originators of Print & Scan, Trax UK are in an ideal position to undertake bureau service functions. Our work practice includes attention to detail such as making the form attractive by the use of graphics and easy to use by respondees, as well as questioning any details that have not been clearly defined. Scanning and analysis may also be included in the service. Both Access and Excel files can be prepared for users who wish to undertake their own-in-depth comparisons of the data set or, alternatively, graphical and report formats can be generated and supplied from within the system.. Call Chris Macken or Colin Woolhouse on 01634 724724 for information on the services available or E-Mail us at - info@trax-uk.co.uk.
